Planning

The Planning Department provides planning, technical assistance, grant development and administration on a cost for services or grant basis pertaining to:

  • Capital improvement
  • Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) grant application and administration
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) project application
  • Hazard mitigation
  • Infrastructure development
  • Land use planning/zoning
  • Local economic profiles
  • Mapping / Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Ordinance preparation, revision and enforcement
  • Other local development assistance

The Planning Department's duties are to provide advisory and administrative support to the Planning Board to:

  • Make studies of the county and surrounding areas
  • Determine objectives to be sought in the development of the study area
  • Prepare and adopt plans for achieving objectives
  • Develop and recommend policies, ordinances, administrative procedures and other means for carrying out plans in a coordinated and efficient manner
  • Advise the commissioners concerning the use and amendment of means for carrying out plans
  • Exercise any functions in the administration and enforcement of various means for carrying out plans the commissioners may direct
  • Perform any other related duties the commissioners may direct
